Urbel del Castillo

In the oldest findings available, which date back to 1121, this place is quoted as 'Uluer' or 'Ulver'.

This spelling could stem from 'Ul- / Ultra-' (meaning 'beyond') and '-ver / -verede' (to see).

The meaning of Úrbel would then be 'look-out post' or 'a place to look into the far distance'.

This theory matches perfectly with the fact that the hill where the castle of Úrbel is built upon could have been used as a a vantage point since very old ages.

VALLES del CID holiday house is the perfect place to enjoy a lovely stay in a land steeped in history and discover the North of Old Castile.

Nature and culture hand in hand in an idilic location.

In the neighbouring village of Úrbel del Castillo lies the watchtower that belonged to the kin of Ruy Díaz de Vivar, 'El Cid', also named 'El Campeador'.
